New Timetables Effective April 5th

New schedules go into effect Sunday, April 5th. This timetable will be in effect through May 2, 2009, when timetables will change again to accommodate track work on the Hudson Line.

Service changes to watch for on April 5th include:

On the Hudson Line:

There will be service changes to Upper Hudson Line trains in all time periods due to our 2009 Concrete Tie Replacement Program, which will occur in three phases this spring and early summer.

  • In the AM Peak, customers traveling to/from Cortlandt, Peekskill, Manitou, Garrison, Cold Spring, Beacon, New Hamburg, and Poughkeepsie should look for station signs about service changes, including changes to the platforms on which your trains will arrive.
  • Also, the 6:41 AM train departing Grand Central to Poughkeepsie will be replaced by bus service between Peekskill and Poughkeepsie.
  • The 5:01 PM express train from Poughkeepsie to Grand Central will not operate for the duration of the tie replacement program, through July.
  • During Off-Peak hours, listen for station PA announcements about track changes and other last-minute service changes.

On the New Haven Line:

  • Minor adjustments will be made to a small number of Peak and Off-Peak trains in order to improve service reliability and address scheduling conflicts. Check the timetable for details.
  • In response to customer requests, the 6:15 PM train from Grand Central to Stamford, with Rye as the first stop, will now stop at Harlem-125th Street Station. This will close a 54-minute gap in service from Harlem-125th Street to this zone.
  • On the Waterbury Branch, the 7:05 PM train from Grand Central will depart at 6:52 PM, connecting at Bridgeport with the 8:11 PM train, which arrives in Waterbury at 9:08 PM. This is to improve service reliability.
  • On the Danbury Branch, one minute will be added to all train travel times to accommodate bridge repairs near South Norwalk.
  • A stop at New Haven-State Street Station will be added to three trains — the 10:57 AM from New Haven, and the 8:34 AM and 10:07 AM trains from Grand Central.

On the Harlem Line:

There are no major changes to service.

Be sure to pick up a new timetable to check for changes that may

affect your commute. They are available in Grand Central Terminal and at outlying ticket offices. Or visit our schedules page.

New West of Hudson Timetables Effective April 19th

New schedules for the Port Jervis/Pascack Valley lines go into effect on Sunday, April 19th. Changes include:

On the Port Jervis Line -- The 6:08 PM train from Hoboken will operate three minutes later.  The 3:54 AM train will depart Port Jervis two minutes earlier, and arrive one minute earlier at all other stations in New York.  Its arrival at Secaucus Junction and Hoboken is unchanged. These minor adjustments are being made to improve service reliability.

On the Pascack Valley Line -- The 6:24 AM train from Spring Valley will operate one minute earlier due to its connection at Secaucus Junction, also operating one minute earlier.

No matter which line you take, look for changes in connections between Secaucus Junction and Penn Station-NY due to Amtrak’s upcoming 2009 concrete tie replacement program. Most changes are in the 2 to 4 minute range, with a few in the off-peak period lasting a little longer.

New timetables are available at Hoboken, Penn Station-NY and Secaucus Junction.  Be sure to pick up a copy and check for possible changes to your commute, or visit our schedules page.

The New Ulster-Poughkeepsie LINK

The Ulster-Poughkeepsie LINK is a new bus service linking four Ulster County communities with Metro-North Railroad service at Poughkeepsie Station. With free Park & Ride lots in Rosendale, New Paltz and Highland, the seven-day service meets 25 express trains each weekday and 10 express trains each weekend day. The service allows Ulster County residents to avoid the drive over the Mid-Hudson Bridge, avoid the toll and forget the hunt for parking.  This bus service, which also will serve the SUNY New Paltz campus on weekends, is operated by Ulster County Area Transit, UCAT, under contract to NYSDOT. Hudson Line Platform Changes Through 2009

The next phase of the Hudson Line station rehabilitation project began in January 2008, and will last for approximately 18 months. During this phase, we will replace the inbound platforms at Philipse Manor, Scarborough, and Ossining stations.

This work will require that we continue to change the way in which we operate trains from Morris Heights to Ossining during the AM Peak. Therefore, customers will still board their morning trains from the opposite platform. (In other words, northbound trains will be arriving on southbound platforms, and southbound trains will be arriving on the northbound platforms.)

Additionally, weekday off-peak customers at Tarrytown, Philipse Manor, Scarborough, and Ossining stations will generally use the northbound platform for ALL trains (southbound and northbound) during this project phase.

Please look for signage with exact details at your station, and also listen for announcements in the event that operating conditions require a last-minute revision to track assignments.

We thank you for your patience and understanding.

Online Ticket Scams

Beware of online ticket scams! The only official way to purchase Metro-North Railroad tickets online is from WebTicket. Some customers have reported "bogus" websites offering nonexistent ticket discounts.

Do not use these sites. If a railroad ticket offer seems too good to be true -- it probably is. You will never receive a ticket and you will have given someone access to your credit card information.

Again, only purchase tickets online from WebTicket. To avoid confusion, bookmark that page today.
